PASSION, CONCERN, AND PRIDE

Just three words. Three concepts that define us as individuals, as a family, and as our philosophy.

OUR COMMITMENTS TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

1 NO POVERTY
As a small company, we promote economic opportunities in hiring and jobs among vulnerable populations, training people in vineyard care and providing decent remuneration for their work.
2 ZERO HUNGER
We are farmers and we know what it takes to cultivate the land and the sacrifices made in rural life. That is why all the grapes we produce our wines from are our own, as well as from local farmers who are paid a fair price for them. They can then continue growing, not only grapes but also cereals, fruit trees, etc. We also help our farmers control yields in the field, therefore contributing to zero waste.
5 GENDER EQUALITY

We believe in real gender equality, in people’s capacity for work, effort, and sacrifice, regardless of their sex or status. Management positions in the winery are currently held by the same percentage of women as men, with our mother as the winery manager.

We are a family, and we believe in work-life balance. We adapt schedules to workers and we take advantage of the flexibility that a small company has to be able to take care of the people who work here.

6 CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION

We are very conscious of the sustainability of the ecosystem and the maintenance of aquifers, not only in our winery but also in our fields. All water collected at our facilities is treated at a treatment plant and analyzed throughout the year.

The care of the vineyards and landscape is the legacy we received from our grandparents, and so we no longer use any phytosanitary products in the fields that may leave residues or contaminate aquifers.

7 AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

At present, we use GEOTHERMIA to air condition the aging room and winemaking areas.

For the offices and public areas of the winery we have AEROTHERMIA systems.

8 DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
As a small company located in a rural area, we are aware that the work must be decent and well paid; but not only for the workers in the winery, but also for the temporary workers who take care of our fields during the grape harvest. That is why we not only pay fair wages but also provide them with decent accommodation during their stay that covers absolutely all their needs.
9 INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
We believe in sustainable growth. In 2018, we began construction to enlarge the winery. Upon completion in 2020, there was a 20% increase in the number of jobs at the winery.
12 RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Recycle, reuse, and reduce. Currently, more than 75% of the glass we use comes from cullet (recycled glass). All the cardboard we package our product in is 100% recycled. Thanks to the investment in filtration systems, we have reduced processing waste by 100%.
13 CLIMATE ACTION

We have adopted urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects. To this end, we have improved our energy efficiency with geothermal and aerothermal systems. We have already begun studying how to become energy self-sufficient by installing photovoltaic panels on the winery roof.

All the vineyards where we produce our wines from are 1-3 km from the winery. This way, the grapes arrive almost immediately after harvest, and fossil fuels for their transportation are also reduced.

15 LIFE ON LAND
We make our living from the fields, vineyards, and from the landscape that we inherited and that we must continue to preserve and care for. At Bodegas Martínez Alesanco we have been producing organic wines since 2015. We cultivate sustainable vineyards where we use environmentally friendly products that do not damage aquifers.
